Volcano Engine Launches Seedance 2.5 4K With Draft-First Video Workflow

Volcano Engine, the cloud and AI arm of ByteDance, released Seedance 2.5 4K on October 23, a video generation model it calls the strongest in the Seedance 2.5 family. The upgrade focuses on image quality and performance, with dedicated training aimed at learning facial expressions, subtle movements and finer picture detail.

The product introduces a Draft mode: users can first generate a 480P sample to quickly validate a storyboard and refine shots, then render the final 4K version once satisfied. Volcano Engine frames this as a cheaper way to give creative teams room to explore before committing to expensive high-resolution output.

The model is currently available only to some enterprise customers on a trial basis, with broader access expected to follow gradually. Seedance 2.5 4K joins a crowded field of Chinese AI video generators competing on realism and production workflow rather than raw model size.

The draft-first approach matters because video generation costs rise sharply with resolution. If enterprise users adopt the 480P-to-4K pipeline, it could become a template for how AI video tools are sold to studios and advertisers: not just better frames, but cheaper iteration.
