What we publish
HotNews is a daily publication about China written for readers who do not live there: technology, artificial intelligence, finance, sports, entertainment, games, cars, lifestyle, science, travel and culture. New stories appear every day in sixteen languages.
Who answers for a story
Every story carries one byline: the HotNews editorial desk. The desk decides what runs, sets the writing rules a story must meet, applies the checks described in our editorial policy, and is the party responsible for what is published here — including corrections and retractions.
How the day’s topics are chosen
An event becomes a story when it is reported by more than one outlet at the same time. Candidates are ranked by how many distinct sources cover them, how fresh they are, and how far they spread across our sections. One source alone, however large, does not set the front page.
What we do not cover
We do not publish political reporting: government, officials, elections, parties, the military, territorial disputes, protests, sanctions or human-rights advocacy. When a story touches those subjects, we report only its civilian, commercial or cultural side.
