BYD's Next-Gen Dolphin Interior Redefines EV Design
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has revealed interior design sketches for its second-generation Dolphin model, showcasing a fresh approach to automotive interior design. The sketches, shared by Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD’s Ocean Network Sales Division, highlight significant changes to the cabin layout that prioritize both aesthetics and functionality.
The most notable change in the new Dolphin’s interior is the relocation of physical control buttons to the area below the air conditioning vents. This design choice creates a cleaner, more minimalist dashboard appearance while maintaining practical accessibility. The central console appears to feature either a wireless charging pad for mobile devices or a recessed storage compartment, offering flexibility for different user preferences.
“The second-generation Dolphin features reshaped lines and refreshed surfaces, with more surprises to come,” Zhang Zhuo stated in his social media post announcing the design sketches. This cryptic comment suggests additional innovative features may be revealed before the model’s official launch.
The Dolphin, BYD’s popular compact electric hatchback, has been a significant contributor to the company’s domestic and international success. The first generation, launched in 2021, became known for its affordable pricing, practical design, and respectable range of up to 401 kilometers (249 miles) depending on the configuration.
This interior redesign reflects broader trends in the automotive industry as manufacturers seek to differentiate their electric vehicles through innovative cabin designs. With fewer mechanical components compared to traditional cars, EV manufacturers have greater freedom to reimagine interior spaces and create more user-friendly environments.
BYD continues to expand its global footprint, with the Dolphin serving as one of its key export models. The company has been rapidly growing its international presence, recently becoming the world’s largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles, surpassing traditional automakers in both domestic and overseas markets.
The second-generation Dolphin is expected to build on the success of its predecessor while incorporating BYD’s latest technological advancements.
