Today AI Raises $200 Million in Seven Months for Personal Assistant

Today AI, a Shanghai-based startup building a personal AI assistant, has raised more than $200 million in cumulative funding just seven months after it was founded, according to disclosures from its investors. The round includes IDG Capital, Tencent, Ant Group, Sequoia China and phone maker Transsion Holdings.
The company’s flagship product, Today, launched its Chinese version in late September. It is positioned as a proactive assistant that can manage calendars, search email, operate a computer and handle everyday tasks with minimal prompting, rather than waiting for one-off questions.
The funding lands as personal AI assistants become one of the most closely watched application categories in the industry. Over the past year, AI products have shifted from answering questions to executing multi-step instructions, and hardware makers are also experimenting with AI glasses, earbuds and recording devices to feed real-world context into agents.
The startup was founded by Qi Junyuan, a serial entrepreneur who previously created the collaboration tool Teambition and later led AI and productivity products at Alibaba and ByteDance. Its rapid fundraising suggests investors are still willing to place large bets on consumer-facing AI applications, even as spending on model training and infrastructure continues to climb across the sector.
