Daniel Wu Joins Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Voice Cast for Netflix

CD Projekt Red has announced that Hong Kong-American actor Daniel Wu will join the voice cast of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the follow-up to the acclaimed anime series set in the world of the video game Cyberpunk 2077. Wu, known to international audiences for his roles in films such as New Police Story and the AMC martial arts drama Into the Badlands, will voice a character named Kirill Yang in the new season.
The news, shared by the developer on October 1, gives the series another recognizable name as it builds toward its Netflix debut. The second season is scheduled to arrive on October 20 with ten episodes, produced jointly by CD Projekt Red and the Japanese animation studio TRIGGER. The two companies previously collaborated on the first season, which became a breakout hit for the streaming service and helped draw new players to the game.
Rather than continuing the story of the first season’s cast, Edgerunners 2 will tell an entirely new and independent tale that extends the universe established in Cyberpunk 2077. According to the announcement, the story follows four new characters and is described as a brutal saga of redemption and revenge. It unfolds in a city that glitters because of violence, where a persistent question hangs over the characters: when the world is blinded by superficial glamour, what price must you pay?
The first season of Edgerunners earned strong reviews for its kinetic animation, neon-soaked visual style and emotional storytelling, and it won recognition at several animation and gaming awards. Expectations are therefore high for the second installment, which arrives with a fresh cast and a new narrative direction rather than a direct continuation.
Wu’s casting continues a trend of established film actors moving into animation and game-adjacent projects, a space where star power can help a series reach audiences beyond dedicated fans of the source game. His character, Kirill Yang, has not yet been detailed beyond the name, leaving viewers to speculate about his role in the four-character ensemble.
For CD Projekt Red, the anime remains an important piece of the broader Cyberpunk franchise, bridging the gap between the 2020 game and its planned future projects, including a full sequel currently in development. The company has used the animated series to keep the brand active between game releases and to introduce the setting to viewers who may never have played it.
TRIGGER, based in Japan, is known for stylized action animation and has brought that sensibility to the Cyberpunk world. The studio’s involvement has been a key part of the series’ identity, blending Japanese animation craft with a Western science-fiction property.
Edgerunners 2 arrives on Netflix on October 20. All ten episodes will be available at launch, allowing viewers to watch the new story in a single sitting, as many did with the first season.
