GTA 6 PC Version Reportedly Set for Early 2027

Grand Theft Auto VI is still months away from its console debut, but attention is already shifting to when PC players will get their turn. According to a report from GamesBeat, four people familiar with Rockstar Games’ plans say the studio intends to release a PC version of GTA 6 during the first quarter of 2027. The company has not commented on the claim, and the sources spoke anonymously to protect their business relationships.
The timing matters because Rockstar has a long history of making PC players wait. The console version of GTA 6 is already locked in for November 19, 2026. If the new report holds, the gap between the two launches would be roughly three to five months. That would be the shortest interval Rockstar has ever managed for a dual-platform release of this scale, and a notable change for a studio whose PC ports have often arrived a year or more after consoles.
The comparison with GTA 5 is striking. That game reached consoles in September 2013, but PC players did not get it until April 2015, a wait of about 19 months. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar pattern, arriving on PC roughly a year after its console release. For years, the running joke among PC gamers was that Rockstar treated their platform as an afterthought, a second-class citizen in a world where console sales drove the headlines. A shorter window for GTA 6 would suggest the company is rethinking that approach.
There are practical reasons the calculus may have changed. The PC market has grown enormously since 2013, especially in regions where console ownership is less common. China, for example, has a vast PC gaming audience, and while GTA titles are not officially sold there, the platform remains central to how many players around the world experience big-budget games. Releasing a PC version sooner could capture momentum while the game is still dominating conversation, rather than asking players to stay patient for over a year.
Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has also been pushing for more frequent releases and stronger recurring revenue. A faster PC launch fits that strategy. It keeps the game in the news cycle longer, sustains sales during the crucial first year, and gives modders and content creators less reason to drift away. The studio has not confirmed any of this, and plans can shift. Game development is famously unpredictable, and a date reported by anonymous sources is not the same as an announced release window.
For now, the takeaway is simple. If the report is accurate, PC players may not have to wait nearly as long as they feared. The console version arrives in November 2026, and a PC release in early 2027 would mean the gap is measured in months, not years. That would be a meaningful shift for one of the biggest entertainment launches of the decade, and a signal that Rockstar is learning to treat its PC audience with more urgency.
